Heart of Duchess Meandering Paw Prints FREE crochet pattern

We are at it again!!  Doug Speeckaert contacted me with another BEAUTIFUL tribute blanket in which he arranged my paw print design into a series of hearts on a full sized blanket.  I designed an edging of Embossed Paw Prints to compliment the arrangement, which is only top and bottom edge...not all the way around. Reminiscent of a collar, or those satin bands at the top of a velux blanket. OR you could decide to not edge your blanket at all or just go with the top. Whatever you decide it is sure to be a beautiful one of a kind treasure!! I sure do enjoy these collaborations with Doug!!

MEANDERING PAW PRINTS

SIZE: 66 inches x 63 inches
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate
MATERIALS:   H/5.00 mm crochet hook, Worsted Weight/Medium/Size 4 yarn (Approx. 61 ounces of main color (I used 2 colors alternating each skein) and 6 oz contrasting color for the top and bottom edging), and a yarn needle
STITCHES/TERMS USED:
GAUGE: 12 dc = 4 inches, 7 dc rows = 4 inches
NOTES:
1)      Ch 2 at beginning of a row does NOT count as a stitch.

2)      Dc in last sk st: Insert the hook into the skipped stitch indicated and continue with your dc in the same manner as the other dc. This binds the two sts together into a cross stitch. (see pics below). There is also a video tutorial for the scarf that can help you with this portion of the pattern.  http://amysastitchatatime.blogspot.com/2017/11/meandering-paw-prints-scarf-video.html

Embossed Paw Print Edging

This edging is an optional addition to the Meandering Paw Prints Heart of Duchess blanket pattern. You will need approx. 6 oz of contrasting yarn to make both the top and bottom edging on the blanket. There is no right side to the blanket until you add the first edging. If you choose to do a top and a bottom edging you will need to pay attention to the notes so that you start on the correct side.  Each paw print repeat is worked over 10 stitches. Given the width of the blanket you will have 21 paw prints across.

OR you can make this edging two toned!! On Row 4, you will carry along your contrasting yarn for the paw prints and bring it forward for the treble crochet clusters and then through rows 5 & 6 for the treble crochet’s.  There will be a video made in the near future to help with this process. Check back at the Amy B Stitched blog or facebook to see when it is released.

SPECIAL STITCHES FOR EDGING
Trc cl – treble crochet cluster: Yo 2 times, insert hook into next st, yo, draw up a loop, yo, draw through 2 loops twice, Yo 2 times, insert hook into SAME st, yo, draw up a loop, (yo, draw through 2 loops) twice. Yo, draw through 3 loops remaining on hook.
Trc – treble crochet: Yo 2 times, insert hook into next st, yo, draw up a loop, (yo, draw through two loops) three times.
NOTE:
1) Even rows are the RS (right side) of work. If you happen to begin your second edging band on the incorrect side, you can just push the bobbled stitches to the other side and it will not make that much difference.
2) Treble crochet clusters and regular treble crochets form the pads of the paw print. Unless stated you will allow them to protrude out the front side of the work.

Rows 1-3: Join contrasting yarn with a sl st in the final stitch of row 113 of the body of the blanket, ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Sc in first 4 sts, * (trc cl next st) 2 times, sc in next 8 sts. Repeat from * across. Sc in last 4 sts.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn. Sc in first 2 sts, * trc next st (push trc back to the right/front side of your work this row only), sc next 4 sts. Repeat from * across. Sc in last 2 sts.
Row 6: Ch 1, turn. Sc in first 3 sts, * trc next st, sc next st, trc next st, sc next 7 sts. Repeat from * across. Sc in last 4 sts.
Row 7: Ch 1, turn. Hdc first 3 sts, * sc next 5 sts, hdc next 5 sts. Repeat from * across. Hdc in last 2 sts.
Row 8: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. Cut yarn and finish off.
Row 9 (top finishing edge): Reattach yarn at the beginning of row 8. Sl st in the back loop of each stitch all the way across. Cut yarn and finish off.
Finishing edge between body of blanket and embossed paw print edging: Reattach yarn on the RS of the work in the first stitch of the last row of the body of the blanket where your first row of single crochet enters the stitch.

  1. Thank you so much I just lost my Fur Baby Princess Cali {She was a calico LOL}, of whom I had since she was 4 weeks old. It had been a wonderful 15 1/2 years with her by my side. I shall when I can stop crying start to make these items in her memory.
    Much Love
